Recycling Society
ERC proposals to the Council, Commission and Parliament regarding recycling of wastes and towards a real European Recycling Society:
- The need for a clear recycling definition in the Waste Framework Directive that is based on material cycling concepts
- The need for a harmonised and enforceable approach for recycling targets and activities
- The need to preserve the 5 step waste hierarchy promoting recycling over energy recovery
- A clear distinction from chemical and thermal energy transfer processes
- Recycling should be assessed on the output not the input of a process.
